James Ellison (actor)
James Ellison (born James Ellison Smith; May 4, 1910 – December 23, 1993) was an American film actor who appeared in nearly 70 films from 1932 to 1962. Biography Ellison was born in Guthrie Center, Iowa, the son of Edward James Smith and Ona Mary Ellis. He worked for a time in a film laboratory and while there was offered a screen test, after being discovered at Harold Lloyd's Beverly Hills Little Theatre for Professionals. He developed the film footage himself, and after he saw it, decided it was not satisfactory so he would not show it to the director. But the director saw it anyway and Ellison got a contract. He spent much of his career in westerns, including a stint in the mid-1930s as Johnny Nelson, the sidekick of Hopalong Cassidy in Paramount's highly successful series. Although he was a "supporting player" in the series, his name is oddly billed the same size and format as veteran actor and matinee idol William Boyd's. James Dennis Ellison (June 18, 1940 – March 2021) was an American white supremacist from San Antonio, Texas. In 1971, he founded the radical organization The Covenant, The Sword, and the Arm of the Lord (CSA). Ellison purchased a strip of land near Elijah, Missouri, and he constructed his compound on it. James Walter Ellison (April 18, 1964 – June 20, 1996) was the frontman for the band Material Issue. He tirelessly promoted his band, booked tours, and secured a major-label deal in 1990. Ellison — along with bassist Ted Ansani and drummer Mike Zelenko — would lead the renaissance of power pop in the early 1990s. Personal life and legacy Ellison grew up in Illinois and attended Glenbard North High School. He died on June 20, 1996 from suicide. Jim Ellison (born January 7, 1952) is an American politician who served as a member of the Michigan House of Representatives from 2017-2022. He is a member of the Democratic Party. He now serves as Oakland County's Chief of Older Adult Services, a position introduced in 2023. Early career Ellison started his career as a construction cost estimator with Ronnisch Construction Group and Barton Malow Company, with the latter being where he spent most of his career. He also worked in business development at Royal Oak Storage. Ellison held a number of elected offices before joining the state legislature.
